Controling anticipatory behavior for rounding in French cued speech

چکیده
“Langage Parlé Complété (LPC)” is the French manual system – corresponding to Cued Speech – used to complement lip reading and thus enhance speech perception for hearing-impaired people. In an anticipatory rounding context, a French speaker was audiovisually recorded while pronouncing and coding [i#yi] sequences with two different pause durations. The effect of pause duration on hand and lip temporal organization was investigated in relation to the wellknown anticipatory phenomenon of the lip gestures on the acoustic signal. Results showed that: (i) the manual cue follows the temporal organization of visible speech; (ii) the manual target position is always ahead of the corresponding

Multimodal perception of anticipatory behavior - Comparing blind, hearing and cued speech subjects
In a previous study [1] on vowel rounding anticipatory perception through a fricative consonant stream with a gating paradigm, we discovered that auditory information could be, in this VCV frame, ahead of visual information, and even of audiovisual information (hence A>AV>V). We propose here to extend this experiment to different modality-impaired groups of adults and children, namely: (i) to b...
متن کاملA pilot study of temporal organization in Cued Speech production of French syllables: rules for a Cued Speech synthesizer
This study investigated the temporal coordination of the articulators involved in French Cued Speech. Cued Speech is a manual complement to lipreading. It uses handshapes and hand placements to disambiguate series of CV syllables. Hand movements, lip gestures and acoustic data were collected from a speaker certified in manual Cued Speech uttering and coding CV sequences. Experiment I studied ha...
متن کاملTest of the movement expansion model: anticipatory vowel lip protrusion and constriction in French and English speakers.
The modeling of anticipatory coarticulation has been the subject of longstanding debates for more than 40 yr. Empirical investigations in the articulatory domain have converged toward two extreme modeling approaches: a maximal anticipation behavior (Look-ahead model) or a fixed pattern (Time-locked model). However, empirical support for any of these models has been hardly conclusive, both withi...
متن کاملPersian Cued Speech: The Effect on the Perception of Persian Language Phonemes and Monosyllabic Words with and without Sound in Hearing Impaired Children
Objectives: This paper studies the effect of Persian Cued Speech on the perception of Persian language phonemes and monosyllabic words with and without sound in hearing impaired children. Cued Speech is a sound based mode of communication for hearing impaired people that is comprised of a limited series of hand complements and the normal pattern of speech. And it is shown that it effectively ca...
متن کاملOn the causes of compensation for coarticulation: evidence for phonological mediation.
This study examined whether compensation for coarticulation in fricative-vowel syllables is phonologically mediated or a consequence of auditory processes. Smits (2001a) had shown that compensation occurs for anticipatory lip rounding in a fricative caused by a following rounded vowel in Dutch. In a first experiment, the possibility that compensation is due to general auditory processing was in...
